Journal of Engineering Systems and Innovation (JESAI) recognizes the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies, including large language models (LLMs), in the research and manuscript preparation process. This policy outlines the principles governing the responsible use of AI tools by authors, reviewers, and editors involved with JESAI.

Use of AI in Manuscript Preparation

Authors may use AI and AI-assisted technologies to support the writing process, such as improving language, grammar, and readability, or assisting with literature search and organization. However, the core intellectual content, including the research design, data analysis, interpretation of results, and scientific conclusions, must remain the original work of the human author(s).

Disclosure Requirement

Authors must disclose any use of AI or AI-assisted technologies in the preparation of their manuscript. This disclosure should be included in the Acknowledgment section and must specify:

• The name and version of the AI tool used;
• The specific purpose for which it was used (for example, language editing, literature search, or data visualization assistance);
• Confirmation that the author(s) have reviewed and take full responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the AI-assisted content.

AI Tools Cannot Be Listed as Authors

AI tools do not meet the criteria for authorship, as they cannot take responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the work, nor can they provide consent for submission or agree to be held accountable for the content. AI tools must not be listed as an author or co-author on any manuscript submitted to JESAI.

Prohibited Uses

The following uses of AI are not permitted in manuscripts submitted to JESAI:

• Generating fabricated or falsified data, results, or citations;
• Producing substantial portions of manuscript text (such as the Introduction, Discussion, or Conclusion) without meaningful human authorship, review, and revision;
• Using AI to generate fictitious references or citations that do not exist;
• Concealing or misrepresenting the extent of AI involvement in the manuscript preparation process.

Use of AI in the Peer Review Process

Reviewers and editors are prohibited from uploading or submitting manuscript content, in whole or in part, to any AI tool or external platform, as this may violate the confidentiality of the peer review process and the intellectual property rights of the authors. AI tools may not be used to generate review reports or editorial decisions without meaningful human evaluation and judgment.

Author Responsibility

Regardless of the extent to which AI tools are used, the author(s) remain fully responsible and accountable for the content of the manuscript, including its accuracy, originality, and compliance with ethical publishing standards. Failure to properly disclose the use of AI tools may be considered a violation of JESAI's publication ethics policy.
