Journal of Engineering Systems and Innovation (JESAI) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and takes plagiarism seriously in all its forms. Plagiarism is considered a serious violation of publication ethics and will not be tolerated at any stage of the submission, review, or publication process.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the following practices:

• Presenting the words, ideas, data, or work of another person as one's own without proper acknowledgment or citation.
• Copying substantial portions of text from another source, with or without minor modifications, without appropriate citation.
• Paraphrasing another author's work too closely without proper attribution.
• Self-plagiarism, which includes submitting substantial portions of one's own previously published work as new material without proper citation or disclosure.
• Submitting a manuscript that has been translated from a previously published work in another language without proper citation and disclosure.

Plagiarism Screening Process

All manuscripts submitted to JESAI are screened for plagiarism using Turnitin (or an equivalent similarity detection software) prior to being sent for peer review. The screening is conducted by the editorial team as part of the initial manuscript evaluation.

Similarity Threshold

Manuscripts with a similarity index above 25% (excluding references, quotations, and standard phrases) will be returned to the corresponding author for revision. The manuscript will not proceed to the peer review stage until the similarity issues have been adequately addressed. Manuscripts found to contain extensive verbatim copying or evidence of severe plagiarism may be rejected outright, regardless of the overall similarity percentage.

Handling Suspected Plagiarism

If plagiarism is suspected or identified at any stage, including after publication, JESAI will follow the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines to investigate the matter. Depending on the findings, actions may include:

• Requesting clarification or revision from the author(s);
• Rejecting the manuscript;
• Retracting the article if plagiarism is confirmed after publication;
• Notifying the author's institution, where appropriate.

Author Responsibility

Authors are solely responsible for ensuring that their submitted manuscripts are original works and that all sources used have been properly cited and acknowledged in accordance with accepted academic conventions.
