Publication Ethics

Journal of Engineering Systems and Innovation (JESAI) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against any publication malpractice. This statement is based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process: editors, reviewers, and authors.

Duties of Editors

  • Publication decisions: The editor is responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts will be published, based on the validity of the work and its significance to researchers and readers, without regard to the authors' race, gender, religion, citizenship, or political views.
  • Fair play: Manuscripts are evaluated solely on their intellectual content, free from any bias.
  • Confidentiality: The editor and editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and the publisher.
  • Conflicts of interest: Editors must not use unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the express written consent of the author.

Duties of Reviewers

  • Contribution to editorial decisions: Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and helps authors improve their manuscripts.
  • Confidentiality: Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shown to or discussed with others without editorial authorization.
  • Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate; reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.
  • Acknowledgment of sources: Reviewers must identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors and alert the editor to any substantial similarity between the manuscript and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.

Duties of Authors

  • Reporting standards: Authors must present an accurate account of the original research performed, along with an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the manuscript. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.
  • Originality and plagiarism: Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original works. Proper citation and quotation of the work of others must be used where relevant.
  • Multiple, redundant, or concurrent publication: Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently, nor publish a manuscript describing essentially the same research in more than one journal.
  • Authorship: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All co-authors must have seen and approved the final version and agreed to its submission.
  • Disclosure and conflicts of interest: Authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of the manuscript.
  • Fundamental errors in published works: When an author discovers a significant error in their own published work, it is the author's obligation to promptly notify the editor and cooperate to correct or retract the paper.

Handling Allegations of Misconduct

JESAI will take all allegations of publication misconduct seriously. Any reported act of unethical publishing behavior will be investigated, even if it is discovered years after publication. If, following investigation, misconduct is confirmed, a correction, retraction, or other appropriate action will be taken in accordance with COPE guidelines.
